On April 1st, our partner Angélica Noboa Pagán attended the awards ceremony of the Antitrust International Written Awards, organized by the prestigious French magazine Concurrences and George Washington University in the United States.
The event took place in the assembly hall of the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., with the presence of leading academic, public, and corporate figures in competition law from across the five continents, including William Kovacic, Frédéric Jenny, Reiko Oaki, Cani Fernández, among others.
Her essay, “The Rule of Reason and Its Cassational Interest”, published in the 2023 Dominican Constitutional Jurisprudence Yearbook by the National School of the Judiciary and the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic, and submitted to the competition by Russin, Vecchi & Heredia Bonetti, was selected among the top ten in the Procedure category by an international jury. Among dozens of proposals from various global jurisdictions, her work made it to the shortlist of nominees alongside entries from Poland, Italy, Ireland, the United States, and the United Kingdom in this category.
The winning essay in the category was “The European Commission’s Cartel Settlement Procedure: An Assessment After Fifteen Years” by Wouter Wils of King’s College London. Meanwhile, the Readers’ Choice Award went to the paper titled “The Fine Print of Competition: The Use of Jury Instructions in Labor-Related Cases to Modify the Burden of Proof Standard”, co-authored by Jeffrey C. Bank and Jordane Steiner.
This nomination marks a milestone in the Dominican academic and legal fields, as it is the first time that a work by a Dominican scholar has received this distinction.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who supported Dr. Noboa’s essay with their vote for the Readers’ Choice category. At the same time, we congratulate Angélica on this outstanding achievement and her ongoing efforts to elevate Dominican competition law to the standard of international debate.
