JONATHAN RUSSIN


Experience:

Jonathan Russin established the RV&HB practice during his residence in the Dominican Republic 1967-1974 and continues to maintain his relationship as Senior Counsel to the office.

Among his achievements Mr. Russin:

• Successfully negotiated on behalf of General Electric Company agreement with the Dominican government for the completion of the Itabo II power plant. Conducted discussions and analysis of the cost and benefits of the project, first on the ministerial level and finally in direct negotiations with Joaquin Balaguer, President of the Republic.

• Worked with Mobil Oil Company to prepare the strategy for governmental approval for off-shore oil and gas drilling and exploration in the Caribbean Basin. Negotiated the provisions of a production sharing agreement with government representatives and navigated the agreement through approval by the President, Jorge Blanco, and ratification by the National Assembly.

• Successfully negotiated on behalf of Compania Dominicana de Telefonos for governmental permission to expand telephone service to internal regions of the country.

• Obtained approval from Banco de la Vivienda for the establishment of a savings and loan association in the town of Bonao to permit the acquisition of mortgage financing for the approximately one thousand workers at the newly constructed Falconbridge nickel mine and refinery. Negotiated and obtained $6,000,000 in mortgage guarantees from the Agency for International Development to complement the Savings and Loan financing.
In addition to his work in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Russin opened the offices of Russin & Vecchi in Moscow (1991) Vladivostok (1995) and Sakhalin (2001). He was Of Counsel to the Russian offices.
